What is CBD?

  •  The cannabis plant boasts a variety of compounds—also known as cannabinoids—which contain medicinal benefits. Among these cannabinoids is cannabidiol, or CBD.  CBD is not addictive and will not make you feel "high".

  • CBD is high in fatty acids like Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9.  Moreover, CBD is high in antioxidants like Vitamin A, C and E, and amino acids which are the building blocks of protein that build up collagen and elastin.

What does CBD do?

  • CBD is chemical messengers that activates cannabinoid receptors located in our endocannabinoid system.

What is CB1 and CB2?

  • There are currently two known subtypes of cannabinoid receptors in the body, CB1 and CB2. Research indicates that both CB1 and CB2 receptors are found throughout the skin and in hair follicles.

Does topical CBD work?

Our skin is rich in CB1 and CB2 endocannabinoid receptors which is why CBD topicals can be potent and effective.

How does CBD help skin?

The epidermis is the outermost layer itself formed by layers of cells known as keratinocytes which produce keratin. Anandamide controls the differentiation of these keratinocytes.

Studies show CBD lowers the activity of the FAAH enzyme that is responsible for the degradation of anandamide. Thus, the ability of CBD to raise the anandamide levels promotes healthier skin.

How does CBD help hair?

Hair follicles experience a lifelong cycle of phases, known as growth, regression, and resting.  When the CB1 receptors in hair follicles are overactive, the cell division stops, and many cells die; this results in impaired hair growth and an extended regression phase, also known as catagen.  Therefore, an impaired endocannabinoid production may be a cause for hair loss.

Research studies has shown that CB1 and CB2 receptors regulate hair life cycles.

The three types of cell function (proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis) are all moderated by cannabinoids. The maintenance of these crucial cellular functions is what enables CBD to promote healthier hair.
